This position serves as the Associate Director for Student Transitions and Success under the Center for Campus Life and reports to the Sr. Associate Director for Student Engagement. The individual in this position assists in supporting the university's academic objectives with programs, resources, and activities designed in collaboration with members of the entire RIT community. This position will provide leadership and oversight for the development and implementation of a comprehensive new-student orientation program for incoming first-year, transfer, and graduate students designed to strengthen the connection between students and the University throughout their first year at RIT. This position ensures the provision of continued support and smooth transitions for off-campus and commuter students through intentional programming and access to the Off-Campus and Commuter Student Lounge. Additional responsibilities include advisement of the Reporter Magazine, the student-run publication of RIT. This position requires a dynamic leader with excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, a keen understanding of college student development, and strong administrative, organizational, and problem solving skills. The Associate Director supervises a team comprised of professional staff, para-professional staff (graduate assistants), and 180 student leaders to assist in creating a vibrant, engaging culture that brings together undergraduate students, transfer students, graduate students, and off-campus/commuter students in support of the holistic student experience and overall student success. Responsibilities include: Collaborate with other University departments in support of a comprehensive new-student orientation program that will assist entering first-year, transfer, and graduate students in making the transition from their previous environment to the diverse academic, intellectual, and social culture of the University. Provide overall leadership for the design, implementation, and assessment of a holistic, cohesive curriculum and programmatic initiatives that advance the University's priorities for improved student preparation and success, provides a coordinated experience that aligns with the University's strategic goals. Supervise the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of all Orientation Leadership Team, Orientation Supervisors, Orientation Leaders, and staff photographers. This includes oversight of the administration of all graduate and undergraduate student employment processes and payroll for Orientation. Serve as an Advisor to the Reporter Magazine, the student-run publication of RIT. Specific responsibilities include advising the executive board in their planning, communications, and administrative operations, and well as oversight of budget. Supervise a full time professional Assistant Director. The AD will serve as departmental lead for all marketing, communications, and specialized programs supporting both New Student and Transfer Student Orientation. Develop and implement year round programming for first-year students, transfer students, off-campus/commuter students to ensure increased visibility, understanding, performance, and sense of belonging that will create a lifelong relationship with the University. Included in this expectation is building strong relationships with key stakeholders that can provide expertise, resources, and additional support for the student experience.
