The Portfolio Program Management EMBRACE Internship Overview Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie’s Experiential Interns. The Portfolio Program Management (PPM) Internship through the EMBRACE group provides the opportunity for students to gain first-hand experience with the different functional areas and roles within PPM, as well as broad exposure to various roles within industry. This internship through PPM’s EMBRACE group accentuates the growth and development of its participant by providing networking opportunities, career development, and involvement in projects that make a significant contribution to PPM and AbbVie as a whole due to the unique intersection of roles and functions that Portfolio Program Management department offers. The Portfolio Program Management EMBRACE Internship provides the opportunity to have a rotation within one of the following departments: Planner Group, Deliverable Team Group, Performance Analytics & Operations, Strategic Priorities, and Lean Six Sigma Projects. Tracks are available for Bachelor’s, Master’s (STEM and MBA), and Doctorate (PhD and PharmD) students. Potential responsibilities/project within each area could include: Planner Group Provide basic project management support to drug development projects, including timeline tracking, finance support, organization, and communication (e.g. SharePoint sites, cross functional alignment etc.). Proactively collaborates across functional areas to ensure alignment on project timelines and strategies and ensures that the appropriate information is entered into AMP through direct entry at the asset level as well as coaching and assistance with functions. Support in managing the Project Management Team in collaboration with a Director of Portfolio Program Management with the objective of fostering strong communication, collaboration, and alignment within the matrix organization. Support in driving the development of multiple project planning scenarios in collaboration with AST members; assists with the identification, monitoring and analysis of business risks. Deliverable Team Group Provide Program Management support for assigned Asset Team Sub-teams/working teams. Support in coordinating sub-team activities and deliverables and supports the sub-team leader in driving cross-functional alignment within sub-team and structures sub-team meetings and discussions to drive good decision-making practices. Ensure accurate and timely tracking and reporting of sub-team deliverables and identification, communication and management of sub-team risks. Partners with sub-team members to proactively identify, communicate and manage sub-team risks, including escalation as appropriate for asset level risks. Partners with colleagues in the PM organization and sub-teams to seek process improvement opportunities and participate as needed in developing and implementing change. Performance Analytics & Operations Use basic knowledge of pharmaceutical industry data, analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills to resolve business problems across R&D efficiently and effectively. Collect, track, and analyze project milestone metrics. Report data, communicate issues/trends and recommend improvement. Develops basic analytic tools to support critical business decision making by Managers and Directors in R&D. Create ad-hoc reports, customized data sets and provide quality data in a format that is informative to aid in the analysis or review of data. Support in compiling and publish reports. Assess documentation for completeness, accuracy and appropriate messaging for management review. Create/modify guidelines and checklists to support best practices. Update project templates and project plans to increase their utility. Strategic Priorities Collaborate on projects that may involve process improvement, strategic planning, change management, data analytics, organizational design/effectiveness, acquisitions and/or divestitures, and capability building. Lead strategy sessions and workshops with teams, including senior management. Support program leads to plan, execute and monitor cross-functional strategic initiatives. Run scenarios and recommend alternatives for strategies and priorities within assigned program. Lean Six Sigma Train on the Lean Six Sigma (LSS) improvement methodology and lead a process improvement team. Lead data collection efforts and validate the measurement system on an assigned project team. Support the analysis, planning, design, implementation and evaluation of key processes in collaboration with Portfolio Program Management and cross-functional colleagues. Help improve team function and dynamics by using facilitation skills and leading brainstorming sessions. Obtain Lean Six Sigma certification by completion of the internship.
