National Aquarium Internships
National Aquarium Internships offer college credit and work experience for students currently registered at a two- or four-year accredited college or university. Internship positions are available year-round in many departments throughout the Aquarium.
Internships can include accounting, editorial, graphic design, animal care programs, marketing, horticulture, web development, public relations and social media, and much more. Applicants must be able to work a minimum of 120 hours during their internship.
Students may apply by completing an online application. Required additional documents include a transcript, resume, two references, and responses to 3 questions. The internships are unpaid but provide students with an opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge in a real work setting. Internships also give students valuable job experience and an opportunity to establish professional contacts.
The National Aquarium was established in 1873 as the nation's first public aquarium. The original Washington, D.C. aquarium closed to the public in 2013. However, The National Aquarium in Boston opened in 1981 and is still open to the public. It has more than 20,000 fish, birds, amphibians, reptiles and marine mammals.
