Smithsonian Minority Awards Program and Jobs
Minority students interested in an internship at The Smithsonian may apply for a position in the Minority Awards Program. Internships are full-time, 10-week positions offered in the Fall, Spring and Summer.

Applicants can be undergraduate or graduate students who have a grade point average of 3.0 or above. They must be interested in the museum field or doing research at the Smithsonian. Majors can include anthropology, archaeology, biology, astronomy, animal behavior, and other related fields.

The Intern Pocket Guide: Get the Best Out of Your Internship

Interns receive a weekly stipend; some students may qualify for travel allowances. For others, information will be provided on available housing in the area, including dorm space at local colleges and universities.

To apply, students need to complete an application and submit with two letters of reference. The application includes essay questions.

The purpose of the Minority Awards Program is to increase internship opportunities for minority students at the Smithsonian. All minority students applying must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
