U.S. Department of State Student Internship Program and Jobs
The U.S. Department of State Student Internship Program is an unpaid internship program for students interested in working for government bureaus throughout Washington, D.C., or U.S. embassies or government offices around the world.

Applicants must be college juniors or above attending part-time or full-time an accredited college or university. Students may apply for a Fall, Spring or Summer internship program. The program lasts eight weeks and students may receive academic credit for their experience.


Internship responsibilities vary depending on the department. It may include drafting reports and other types of communications, attending meeting with senior level officials, and other duties. Students must have at least a 2.5 grade point average and be U.S. citizens in order to apply and must be able to obtain security clearance.

The internship program is provided to give students experience in foreign affairs and the formulation of U.S. foreign policy. The program is competitive and offers an intense learning experience for students.
