Westar Energy Paid Internship Program offers several internship opportunities during the summer and part-time during the school year. Internships are offered in the fields of accounting and finance, engineering, information technology, communications, human resources and much more.

Internships are 3 months in duration and often provide opportunities to extend internships on a part-time basis during the school year. Interns receive valuable experience in their field of study and are paid for their work. In addition, qualifying interns can also receive monthly stipends for housing or mileage.


To qualify for an internship, students must be a college sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student pursuing a degree in a field related to the internship. Interns are given challenging work assignments and responsibilities and have the opportunity to join the company as full-time employees following graduation.

Westar Energy, established in 1909, is an investor-owned electric utility headquartered in Topeka, Kansas. Westar is the largest electric company in Kansas, serving 690,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers across the eastern third of the state.
