Smithsonian Magazine Internship offers two 6-month PAID writing internships at Smithsonian Magazine in Washington D.C. These internships are full-time positions working with the Smithsonian Magazine editorial staff.

This is an exceptional opportunity to learn and build skills in writing, blogging and multimedia production for the magazine's website while getting paid to work. Interns will be busy writing and reporting short pieces for the print magazine. The digital editorial intern will focus on the production of stories for Smithsonian.com, increasing their skills in social media within a highly professional environment.


Candidates must be excellent writers who have a strong desire to take their journalism skills to the next level. Applicants must be journalism majors, or major in a related discipline and have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree program.

Candidates may apply to either or both internships by submitting a resume, cover letter, a new story submission, three letters of recommendation and three story clips. All applications should be submitted electronically.

Smithsonian Magazine is the official journal published by the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. The first issue was published in 1970.
