DescriptionMidAmerican Energy Company is seeking a student pursuing a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering graduating later than August 2024. System Protection Engineering interns will be exposed to a variety of projects and activities that occur within the energy industry. Interns will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills learned through college and apply them to the workplace. The position is temporary, nonexempt, and full-time/hourly through the summer. Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities Duties will involve working with protection and control systems that are responsible for safety operating and protecting the electric grid. These duties could include:Reading and interpreting construction documents and drawings for medium and high voltage protection and control equipment.Developing protection system calculations and studies.Preparing designs on projects requiring basic engineering skills.Producing relay settings for Generators, Transformers, Buses, Transmission Line, Reactors/Capacitors, and Distribution Equipment.Creating RTU configurations for Generation, Transmission, and Distribution Substations.Investing protection system operations.Modeling the transmission system to perform short circuit and protection system coordination studies.Opportunity to work with one or more System Protection Department functional teams based upon qualifications and interest: Transmission Protection, Distribution Protection, Operational Data Analysis, CAPE Database Maintenance, Reliability & Compliance, Relay Projects or SCADA, Telemetering & RTU.Additional projects as assigned under the direction of qualified engineering staff.
