Saul T. Wilson, Jr., Internship is offered through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). Students interested in a career in veterinarian services may apply.
To apply, students must be accepted or already enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited U.S. veterinary college or university. Undergraduate students must compete the first two years of school, and graduate students must complete the first graduate year of school before applying. The internship pays up to $5,000 per year for undergraduate students and up to $10,000 per year for graduate students.
Students chosen for internship positions must agree to work for the agency full-time one year for each school year the student worked as an intern. During the internship, students will work with veterinarians on disease management, lab testing, preparing samples and other duties which will help students prepare for a career in veterinarian services.
APHIS is the USDA agency charged with promoting U.S. agricultural health and protecting U.S. animal and plant resources from agricultural pests and diseases. The internship is named after Dr. Saul T. Wilson who spent his career in public veterinary medicine,including working for APHIS.
