Research Science Institute Summer Science and Engineering Program is offered each year to the most accomplished high school students. The program takes place at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Each year, the program accepts 80 of the brightest high school students to join them in a summer of learning. The Research Science Institute (RSI) is offered at no cost to eligible students. RSI gives students a unique opportunity to apply their course work to real work in science and technology research.

Summer Internship Program in Biomedical Research at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI)

Summer Internship Program in Biomedical Research at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is open to high school and college, graduate or Medical and Dental Students. The summer lab research experience focuses exclusively on biomedical research and training. The internship is ten weeks long and takes place between June and August. Interns will work under the guidance of an NHLBI research scientist. High school students must be 16 years old or older before the start of the internship. All applicants must be citizens of the U.S. or permanent residents and be enrolled full-time in high school, college, professional or graduate school. They must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above.

National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke's Summer Program in the Neurological Sciences

National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke's Summer Program in the Neurological Sciences offers a unique program for high school students as well as undergraduate, graduate, and medical students to work in a neuroscience research center. Students will receive top-notch training from leading scientists in the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke Division of Intramural Research. Students may work at one of the labs located in Bethesda and Rockville, Maryland and Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Students interested in a career in the biomedical sciences or clinical research in the neurological sciences will find this a rewarding and valuable summer work experience. It will provide an opportunity for them to combine their classroom knowledge with hands-on, practical experience.

Department of Navy Science & Engineering Apprenticeship Programs (SEAP)

Science & Engineering Apprenticeship Programs (SEAP) give students in grades 9-12 an opportunity to work with a Department of Navy laboratory on research projects and also receive a stipend. Participating labs are located in many states throughout the U.S. Internships last eight weeks during the summer at one of 20 Department of Navy labs. Over 200 students each year are chosen to participate in the internships. Eligible students must be at least 16 years old and have completed grade 9. Students must have an interest in science and engineering research.

National Security Agency (NSA) Internships

National Security Agency Internships are available to high school seniors with an interest in a career within a government security agency. Two internship programs are available. The Gifted and Talented Program STEM for High School is open to high school seniors with high aptitude in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Students applying for this program must have a grade point average of 3.5 or above, and a minimum of 1600 on the SAT or 25 on the ACT. They must be pursuing a computer science or engineering course.

Schlumberger Internships

Schlumberger Internships offer college students practical work experience in the areas of business, information technology, engineering and human resources. Both undergraduate and graduate students may apply. Some internships will require students to be working on an advanced degree, such as business consulting positions. Other internships, including human resources and other office-based positions, require students to have completed their second year of undergraduate work in geology, geophysics, computer science, telecommunications, or engineering.

This is a paid internship for undergraduate and graduate students. Library of Congress Junior Fellows Summer Intern Program

Library of Congress Junior Fellows Summer Intern Program offers a 10-week, paid internship for both undergraduate and graduate college students. The experience will place students in touch with some of the oldest records of human history. Interns will participate in managing digital records and inventory, arranging and cataloging historical records, and preserving special collections. Interns will be participating in an important project that serves to protect historical information for future generations.

Students may choose to work in Boston, Beijing, Zurich or 50 other locations. More than 100 interns are offered internship positions each year. Interns will work with experienced consultants and learn business strategies, receive training and be assigned real consultant cases for real clients.
