Illinois Government Internships and Fellowships are offered to college and graduate students, as well as college graduates. Internships offer great opportunities for students to experience firsthand the inner workings of government in the state of Illinois.

Summer internships are available across several government offices, enabling college students to find work experience that pertains to their area of study. Candidates must be college juniors or seniors, or graduate students in good academic standing who are attending an accredited college or university. Applicants must have a study concentration in the area for which they are applying for an internship.
Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and other Internet applications. Other requirements may be included, depending on the internship position. Many positions may require managing information that is of a confidential nature. Summer internships take place during the summer break. To apply, students must submit a completed application and include a cover letter, resume, transcript and writing samples.

The Illinois Government offices include the Office of the Governor, Executive Inspector General, Department of Transportation, Police, Historic Preservation Agency, Human Rights Commission, Attorney General, Juvenile Justice, and many more.
