The Thurgood Marshall Summer Law Internship Program

The Thurgood Marshall Summer Law Internship Program
The Thurgood Marshall Summer Law Internship Program is for high-achieving inner-city high school students who are interested in exploring careers in the law. This intensive internship program places students with legal employers for the summer.

Students are chosen based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, and a strong interest in the law. Their internship will include assignments such as assisting paralegals, filing, data entry, assisting library and other law office personnel. All chosen interns will be required to participate in pre-employment training.

Interns will attend a law class taught by a Columbia Law School professor, a legal writing workshop, discuss career options with attorneys, prepare for and participate in a mock trial, and spend a week shadowing other attorneys.

The internship is offered through the New York City Bar Association to help increase diversity within the legal profession. It's mission is also to provide inner-city youth with an opportunity to explore careers in law and offers them additional programming before, during, and after the summer internship to help them prepare for a legal career.
